Alice Foster

Alice Foster was the adopted daughter of Timothy Gilbert. According to an account from Adelaide Jameson David: Alice said her husband, Sam Foster, had a "perfect" disposition. When one day someone challenged, "Let's find out about that perfect disposition," they let the fire go out on a very cold day to see what Sam Foster would do or say. He said nothing. But one day someone asked him where his galoshes were, and it turned out they were down in the cellar where he had thrown then that day. According to Bernice Jameson Todd, "Papa sent money to care for Alice Foster." (Apparently William Henry Jameson II supported or helped support several of his relatives -[S.T.]). Photographer is Sarony, Gold Medal Paris, 1878, 37 Union Square, New York. From the collection of Adelaide Jameson David.
