This artifact has handmade iron nails (133), anchored on a steel base around a pine board. Two holes are rounded out for anchoring, one on each end. Donor's Remarks: Flax Hackle (circa 1890). I got this flax hackle from my father. He got it from his cousin who homesteaded in the Dakotas at the turn of the century. He used the hackle to make linen. It was made and used with old handmade nails to be used as splinters of the flax. |
