Communion Wafer Press - Wood/Iron

This artifact is a Wafer Press used to make communion wafers by the local Indians.  It was owned by the Serrano Family living in the Prado Basin during the 18th century.  Wafers were blessed by traveling priests.  Later the Serrano Family made the wafers for St. John's Roman Catholic Church.  This press measures 17" in length and is 7" wide. Donor's Remarks:  This press was given to Francis Martinez by Agueda Serrano about 1938-1939 after the family had left the Prado Basin.
