Abstract/Description: | Photograph of the USS Omaha crew heading towards the smoking Odenwald (right). When the German crew were hailed by the USS Omaha and USS Somers they attempted to scuttle the ship. The Omaha crew boarded the ship and repaired the damages. The USS Somers can be seen in the background on the left. Abner Lonnie Alton is one of the sailors on his way to the save the Odenwald. He may be the crew member in the immediate foreground, facing towards the camera with his head down. |
