Abstract/Description: | Photograph of a sailor rowing a boat on Lake Norconian at the U.S. Naval Hospital. The Lake Norconian Club was originally opened in 1928 and was a resort for the wealthy and Hollywood elite. During the Great Depression the resort shutdown. The U.S. Navy purchased the facility and land just before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The facility was converted into a hospital to treat the ill and wounded U.S. Armed Forces. |
