Abstract/Description: | This artifact is a ceremonial gourd, painted blue, with a wooden handle and string. It measures 14" , and 6" in Diameter. DONOR'S REMARKS: This ceremonial gourd was made by Ray Pachito a Luiseno/Diegueno Pala Reservation Indian. He was the last medicine man for his tribe. This artifact was purchased from his son, Rich Pachito. The gourd comes from the Torres Martines Desert. The rock inside the gourd comes from the Pala Reservation. The handle is also from the Pala Reservation. Cloth on sage always covers the gourd to keep it free of evil spirits. |
